Community Development Projects
We believe in giving back to our community. During these projects we focus our energy on small projects that can provide big improvements in the lives of our neighbors. Examples of what this may involve are building a clean burning stove from cob for a local family or improving sanitation by constructing better bathroom facilities for a home. By keeping the scope of theses projects small, it provides an opportunity for you to make a real impact in a short amount of time.

Our focus of our 2021 Community Development Projects is to bring cleaner, more efficiently burning stoves to our community. Currently in Nicaragua the primary method of cooking is still over an open fire. These spaces are fairly enclosed to prevent wind from blowing and therefore very smokey. Also, these stoves are very inefficient requiring a that a great deal of wood be harvested from our protected UNESCO bio-reserve. It is our intention a two pronged approach to create a healthier life for the forest and those who dwell within it.

Over the three days we will be working closely with our Nicaraguan neighbors while we bring these improvements into their homes. This is a fantastic chance to see first hand rural Nicaraguan living. The stoves will be constructed out of cob and the designs based off rocket stove mass heaters. You will learn the fundamentals of cob construction and finishing techniques leaving you well prepared to return home and construct a cob stove of your own. Come prepared to get your hands (and feet) dirty.
